2023 Summit on Homelessness & housing
May 23-24 2023
KSHC & THE SUMMIT
Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition (KSHC) began with a small group of committed citizens who wanted to change the world. They were frustrated that rural Kansas communities were leaving money on the table by not organizing to apply for HUD's Homeless Assistance Funds for households who were homeless. The committed citizens decided to host a Summit with the intent to educate service providers in rural communities about the many faces of homelessness and the resources to combat it. Their frustration led to action.
From 1999 to 2016, 17 annual Summits were held, Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition, Inc. (KSHC) was created, and thousand of Kansans exited homelessness as non-profit agencies across Kansas secured funds to assist with housing and support services. Designated as a non-profit in 2003, KSHC was created to work with communities throughout the state to provide advocacy, education, and collaboration to end homelessness and to apply for HUD's Continuum of Care funds.
Today, KSHC is a small non-profit, with 11 staff located in Lawrence and is celebrating its 20th Anniversary by bringing back the Summit on Homelessness & Housing - not born in frustration but in celebration of our successes and to set the course, grounded in racial equity, for the years to come.
We invite you to show your support for our mission by joining us at the 2023 Summit and KSHC's 20th-Anniversary Celebration. The Summit will be held on May 23-24 at the beautiful Prairie Band Casino & Resort, in Mayetta KS. The Summit's theme will be "Centering Equity" and will focus on understanding the factors that create racial injustice and health disparities among Kansas' most vulnerable citizens.
